Video: Casting a baseball reality TV show with Bravo's Andy Cohen

SAN DIEGO — If you tune in to Andy Cohen’s interview show “Watch What Happens Live” on Bravo, you’ll see a St. Louis Cardinals cap sitting right behind him. It’s there every single show.

As the executive producer of the “Real Housewives” series and the former head of development at Bravo, Cohen’s day-to-day dealings are all about the drama of reality TV and dissecting why one Real Housewife of Wherever hates the other Real Housewife of Wherever. But he’s also a tried-and-true, since-he-was-a-youngster St. Louis Cardinals fan.

So while Bravo, the apex of guilty-pleasure TV, is among the last places you’d expect baseball talk, Cohen isn’t the last person from whom you should expect it. (Though, Matt Harvey was on “Watch What Happens Live” not too long ago).

If you ask Cohen — and I did — he may just be the top Cardinals celebrity superfan out there. Jon Hamm, if you have a beef with this, feel free to reach out and we’ll get you in a video too.

For this special All-Star week edition of my Open Mike video series from San Diego, I caught up with Cohen after the Esurance All-Star Game Challenge at MLB FanFest. Cohen’s team actually won the Esurance skills challenge, beating teams coached by MLB legends Rickey Henderson and Ozzie Smith. How’s that for baseball bragging rights? Then he played in the Legends & Celebrity Softball Game.

In the video, Cohen tells me about his Cardinals fandom, who he’d cast in a baseball-player reality show and much, much more. I even turned the tables on him and created a baseball version of the “Plead the Fifth” game he plays with celebrities on his show.

So if you’re wondering whether this Cardinals fan will admit just how great rival Cubs slugger Kris Bryant is … well, you need to watch the video above.
